Abstract: Holography relates gravitational physics in d+1 dimensions to quantum field theory
without gravity (of the same general type that governs conventional matter in normal circumstances, but with some special features) in d dimensions. Questions about the physics of charged matter at finite temperature and density can be mapped into questions about charged black holes with planar horizons. We describe some of the simple new black hole geometries that have emerged from recent studies, and the dual field-theoretic physics that they encode.
