Observations of VHE gamma-rays from blazars with the MAGIC telescope
Blazars are the most dominant class of gamma-ray emitter among Active Galactic Nuclei. Electromagnetic emission from this class of sources can be observed from the radio up to TeV energies. The MAGIC telescope is an Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope with a 17-m diameter dish, located on the Canary Island of La Palma (Spain), in operation for exploring a new window of very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray bands, above 50 GeV. Recently, VHE gamma-ray emission has been finally detected from all types of blazars, HBL, LBL and FSRQ. In total, 21 blazars have been confirmed.
In this talk, I will focus on the MAGIC observations for an LBL-type blazar, “BL Lacertae”, which led to the first discovery of VHE gamma-ray emission from this type of blazar. Some results of recent multiwavelength campaign performed with MAGIC and an X-ray Satellite of “Suzaku” for two bright TeV blazars (Mkn501 and 1ES1959+650) will be also reported.
