Eric Morganson present an introduction to point spread functions (PSFs). The PSF is the image that a pefect point source makes in an image. In addition to Gaussian optics, we must often worry about imperfect optics, atmospheric effects and imperfect detectors. We will discuss how PSFs limit resolution, how we can use deconcolution techniques to deal with them and what the limits of such techniques are.
