Tea Talk Schedule

The aims of the tea talk system are to raise awareness of each other's activities, and provide a stage for the presentation of interesting new results, an upcoming conference paper, or a particular problem that would best be tackled with help from other members of the group. By keeping the atmosphere friendly and informal, these talks hopefully help to improve communication across the group. The carrot is finding out what others are up to (and hopefully being entertained in the process). The stick is that everyone is expected to contribute at some point. Guidelines for giving tea talks can be found here . The current tea talk schedulers are Matthew Kerr and Eduardo Rozo.

We have a number of mechanisms in place for making the astro-ph discussion efficient - this is important given the bewildering deluge of new papers being produced by the community! Guidelines for presenting a paper can be found here. We use the vox charta system for collectively identifying interesting papers for discussion, please make an account, log in and add papers that you think will be interesting to the group. If you want to bring a paper up for discussion, but feel you don't have the time or the expertise to explain it properly, you can simply ask someone in the group to summarize it for you! If you are new, here are some names from this list of expert postdoc reviewers who have pre-volunteered to do this sort of thing. This is especially useful for busy faculty and keen-to-learn students :-)

We also use the KIPAC facebook page as a forum for discussing articles in the general news about astrophysics and cosmology -  post your links to newspapers, TV clips, blogs etc here, or email them to the tea talk organisers and they'll post them for you.
