Program for Astrophysics Visitor Exchange at Stanford

Paving the way between KIPAC and Universities in Asia, Africa, and South America

PAVES is an opportunity for students and researchers from around the world to visit Stanford to collaborate on scientific projects with members of Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC).

The travel award will include all expenses for an approximately one-to-two-week visit for the selected applicants, covered by the KIPAC. This program is aimed at increasing scientific interactions in the areas of astrophysics and cosmology between KIPAC, and researchers currently affiliated to academic institutions primarily from Central and South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Africa, South and Southeast Asia.

For selected postdoctoral and faculty members, this program will provide funds to visit Stanford and work with KIPAC members on well-defined scientific projects for a week of their choosing, provided that the visit is completed within a year of the selection date.

Selected undergraduate and graduate students will be required to plan their travel in June 2020 to participate in a week-long workshop, and work with a host at KIPAC.

Instructions to apply:

Applicants should submit the following information to by December 1, 2019 :

1. A cover letter detailing their interest in the program

2. The name of their preferred KIPAC host

3. A copy of their CV

4. The name of a person who can provide a letter of reference (only for student applicants) 

Eligibility/selection criteria:

  •  Research interest in physics, astronomy or cosmology

  •  A bachelor's degree in physics by Summer 2020, with extensive research experience. Doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers, and faculty are equally welcome to apply.

  •  Currently working in Central and South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Africa, South and Southeast Asia (exceptions will be addressed on a case-by-case basis)
