KIPAC Seminar: Refueling the Milky Way

As stars form, the gas in galactic disks gets used up. New gas must accrete onto the galaxy to sustain continued star formation. In this talk, I will use simulations to explore some of the possible sources for refueling our Galaxy's star forming material. I will discuss the formation of the Magellanic Stream and how it could impact the Galaxy in the future. I will also compare the observed population of neutral and ionized high-velocity clouds to those found in simulations and further explore their morphologies and accretion rates.
