SPINWIP Counselor Application
Stanford Program for Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in Physics (SPINWIP) is a free, virtual summer program for high-school girls. This program aims to introduce high-school girls to fundamental concepts in physics and astrophysics, equip them with basic programming skills, and encourage them to pursue careers in STEM. We’re looking for female students at Stanford who are passionate about science education and outreach to serve as counselors for three weeks from July 6 to July 24, 2026. Undergraduate and graduate students with physics and coding backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply!
Counselors will help students strengthen their skills in coding and grasp of physics concepts; foster a sense of community and inclusivity; and receive a $800 stipend as compensation for their work.
Main responsibilities of a counselor include:
- 1. Working closely with a group of 8-10 high-school girls over 3 weeks;
- 2. Leading practice sections (1.5 hours per day) covering basic Python, physics, astrophysics topics;
- 3. Hosting a total of 1-2 office hours (1 hour each);
- 4. Attending counselor training and debrief sessions (5-6 hours total)
