KIPAC Workshop: Rubin / Roman Joint Processing

SLAC, Fred Kavli Building (various rooms)

Event Details:

Monday, May 18, 2026 - Wednesday, May 20, 2026

This event is open to:

Alumni/Friends
Faculty/Staff
Members
Students

This workshop will bring together scientists and data specialists working with the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope and the Vera C. Rubin Observatory to address the technical and scientific challenges of joint data analysis.

The Roman Space Telescope's infrared imaging capabilities and Rubin Observatory's wide-field optical surveys offer complementary views of the time-domain sky, weak gravitational lensing, and large-scale structure. Realizing the full scientific potential of these datasets requires coordinated approaches to data processing, calibration, and analysis.

Workshop sessions will focus on:

  • Data Processing Plans and Planned Data Releases

  • Joint PIxel-Level Processing

  • Joint Hybird Processing (e.g., Roman objects and Rubin pixels)

  • Joint Catalog-Level Processing

  • Data Co-location

  • Computing Resources

  • And more

Participants will include members of both project teams, along with researchers from the broader astronomical community developing science cases that leverage both facilities. The workshop aims to establish practical frameworks for collaborative data processing and foster connections between the two communities.
